Subliminal Definition
This “subliminal definition” definition article will finally give an official definition for the term subliminal, and indeed all the terms associated with it. We have hope we have included all the main vocabulary, however, if we have left anything out please let us know.
Subliminal = Comes from the two Latin words; Sub and Limen. Sub means under, and limen means threshold. So literally translated it means "below threshold". It has more recently been used to describe any type of message which passes below the limits of conscious perception i.e. below our levels of our conscious awareness.
Subliminal Messages = To elaborate on the definition above subliminal messages can either be be text or images flashed so fast that we can't see them, or they can also come as embedded sounds in audio format - and again most popularly either simply above the limits of human hearing, or through subliminal backmasking…
Subliminal Backmasking = Is when played an audio track is played backwards and a message is revealed i.e. the message was embedded in the music, recorded backwards. These backwards messages will still be understood by your unconscious mind and stored just like any other subliminal.
Subliminal Suggestion = Often used to describe a suggestion a hypnotherapist may make to you while you are in a trance, but the term more generally describes the transmission of any information which subliminally attempts to induce a particular response. This can be through regular conversations with a friend or via specific leading leading questions.
Subliminal Persuasion = This is similar to the above definition, but generally means the intention is more manipulative. i.e. when it is used by sales people to try and persuade people into a sale, or when companies use them in their advertising, to try and make the advert more memorable.
Subliminal Hynposis = Where you enter a mini-trance state without your knowledge. We all enter and leave these trances all the time; for example when writing, daydreaming, riding a bike, watching tv, etc all put us into different states of awareness. It can be intentional, or simply by doing a certain activity.
Subliminal Learning = This is when actual physical learning occurs from using subliminal technology. Eventually the messages build and spill over from our subconscious into the conscious mind and learning occurs - which could be anything from increased memory, ability to learn a foreign language, or “learning” such as self esteem development / improving confidence.
